Following the call for papers and visual essays for By Design and by Disaster Conference 2024, we are excited to announce calls for hands-on workshops and 7 x 7 talks today.
By Design and by Disaster has been bringing together people and organizations from diverse fields such as design, art, sciences, activism, rural and urban development, etc. since 2013. Taking place in Bolzano–Bozen (Italy) on 11-14 July, you can look forward to a lively mix of talks, workshops, walks, exhibitions, paper presentations, good food, drinks, music, dance, connection, and exchange.
Power in Transformation
The focus for 2024 is Power in Transformation. Together, we will explore how power is shaping our societies and ecosystems, and how we can wield it to challenge the status quo. We will question established norms, amplify marginalized voices, and clarify how design and art can contribute in moving towards solidary and just power relations among humans and with the more-than-human world.
7 People x 7 Minutes
We are searching for seven people to share their stories or practices that deal with power in transformation (read more about this focus in our call for papers and visual essays). We envision an ever-changing net of words, actions and short interventions, which inspire present and future happenings. Other than being limited to a length of seven minutes, we welcome any and all forms of delivery: song, conversation, live artistry, dance, slide show, active discourse…

→ An introduction of yourself
→ 3-5 keywords related to the subject matter of your talk
→ An abstract/ brief explanation of your seven-minute talk, and how it relates to this year’s focus
Format:
→ 1 page A4 with text and supporting visuals
There will be free food and drinks throughout conference for all accepted speakers.
Hands-on Workshops
We are searching for practitioners to lead hands-on workshops promoting collective action towards social and ecological transformation. Other than being limited to a length of 90 minutes, we welcome all formats: choreography, crafting, co-designing, interventions, games…
If you are ready to be part of our constellation and actively share your practice, write to us at designdisaster@unibz.it before the 2 April 2024.
