Transformative study programs unite!

Invitation to the 1st (Online) Eco-Social Transformation Alumni Network Meeting on May 15th 2020

May 15 9:30 am-2:30 pm (with a one hour break), Zoom meeting, hosted by Free University of Bozen–Bolzano, MA Eco-Social Design

There are now various degree programs that deal with social transformation and the (im)possibility of their design. Especially social-ecological transformation and its democratic design are important to many graduates. This often means that the prospect of seeking employment in existing and established businesses and structures designed to compete, grow, and maximize profits seems not so promising. However, the actors of socio-ecological change must also make a living. And although the demand is steadily rising everywhere, corresponding occupational fields are not yet sufficiently developed.

This is why we would like to give graduates, alumni, and students of transformative (design) programs the opportunity to network and exchange needs. Unfortunately, the circumstances didn’t allow us to meet in person at the DoD’20-conference in Bolzano as planned – But as we are convinced that exchange and joining forces is more important than ever in these days, we’ll just kick off the network online.

What can self-organized support structures look like that make transformative work possible? Do we need a cooperative for transformative work that has the concrete purpose of giving alumni employment in the fields of social-ecological transformation? Do we need more lobbying? More networking with practice? And, most important: What do we have to do now to put our ideas into practice?

The workshop is facilitated by Jennifer Schubert and Laura Heym (MA Eco-Social Design, unibz), Andreas Unteidig (MA Transformationsdesign, HBK Braunschweig), Viola Schulze Dieckhoff (Department of Spatial Planning at the Federal and Regional Levels, TU Dortmund and Die Urbanisten) and Gerald Beck (BA Management of Social Innovations and MA Social Change & Participation, Munich University of Applied Sciences).

Please register here to participate (or even just to stay informed).

More detailed information like the Zoom-Link will be sent on May 14th.
If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact Laura from the organization team.

The core idea of this has been proposed by students of the MA Transformation Design already at DoD18 under the title “Commons for Commons”.
