By Design or by Disaster 2020
1 – 4 October, Free University of Bozen–Bolzano, Italy
We will make an additional online conference on 17 and 18 April: BEYOND CRISIS: How to use the virus-induced situation to build up momentum for social-ecological transformation? Registration open until 5 April 2020.
This series of conferences is co-developing with the Master in Eco-Social Design. It is an opportunity for a lively exchange on the creative practices contributing to social-ecological transformations. Both speakers and participants come from diverse fields of practice, ranging from progressive local farmers to internationally acclaimed designers, researchers and activists. The conference offers a mix of inputs, collaborative formats and excursions in a convivial atmosphere. This year the conference will be connected to the festival hier & da – gut leben im ländlichen Raum / il buon vivere nelle zone periferiche in Obervinschgau / Alta Val Venosta again.
On the evening before the conference: Network session of alumni & students of study courses for social-ecological transformation: Transformative study programs unite!
Together with our guests we will tackle this year’s focus Cross-cutting Strategies, among others with Tom Kopp of the I.L.A. Kollektiv on pathways to solidary post-growth, Armin Bernhard (Obervinschgau/Mals) & Carolin Holtkamp (Uni Innsbruck) on the strategies for radical change in Mals/Obervinschgau, Saskia Hebert and Andreas Unteidig (MA Transformationdesign) on transformation by design, Sina Kamala Kaufmann (Extinction Rebellion), SolidariTree and Friday for Future South Tyrol on protest and progress strategies, and Anna Meroni (Politecnico di Milano) on the transformative potentials of service design, and Martin Strele (Kairos Institute for Impact Research and Development) on transformation in rural areas.
Questions and suggestions are welcome via email.
