The Toolkit for Designing Actions in Times of Multiple Crises

Based on the action outputs of 21 workshops held in the participatory online conference Beyond Crisis, Alastair Fuad-Luke and Secil Ugur Yavuz developed an opensource toolkit for Designing Actions in Times of Multiple Crises that can be used to develop an action plan by a group of actors for a particular Issue/Topic/Theme and/or Concept. Whether it is a pandemic or other type of crisis, the toolkit helps generate new ideas centred through human and other-than-human perspectives. It enables well-designed actions that are in a network of multiple actors to drive transition towards preferred rather than probable and possible futures.

The toolkit consists of a card set as triggers for discussion, idea creation and the basis for co-constructing an action plan as an output. There are six main card categories: Issue/Topic/Theme; Concept; Attitude; Facilitation Tools; Actors; and Actions, and three steps: Orient yourselves, Co-map the actors and Co-create your action plan. There are also blank cards that offer the opportunity for you to write down your own issues, topics, themes, concepts or attitudes and to invent new facilitation tools.  New card proposals for the blank cards will grow and enrich the toolkit by each contribution. You can download the opensource toolkit and start designing your actions!

We shall be testing it further in a workshop at the upcoming By Design or By Disaster Conference on 1-4 October 2020.
