Research through Design, Exploration and Experimentation
Project 3 occurs in the second year of the Masters in Eco-Social Design program. This third semester marks a significant shift from group work and professor-driven projects to a more focused period of research and development of projects that students imagine, guide and realize.  We invite “active research” connected to a deep reflective process that includes documentation, literary references and dynamic modes of presenting work at various phases of its development. Three thematic threads guide a series of assignments, presentations, guests and small workshops:

  • Co-Creation / Collective Intelligence
  • Experimental Ethnography
  • Critical Material Thinking

Guests: Livia Cahn, Anthropologist, BE, Myriel Milicevic, Interaction designer, Professor, Design Postdam University, Germany, Michael Obrist, Architect, feld72 architeten, Vienna, Michael Taussig, Professor of Anthropology, Columbia University, NY, Noah Murphy-Reinhertz, Director, Sustainability Lab, Nike, Ernst Karel, Artist and Faculty, Sensory Ethnography, Harvard University, Roberta Raffaeta, Anthropologist, University of Bologna-Rimini, Department of Cultural Heritage, Nina Bassoli, Architect, Faculty, Free University Bozen, Alessandro Narduzzo, Innovation and strategy UNIBZ, Fernando Garcia Dory, Artist/Agroecologist and Anna Bernagozzi, Professor of Design Theory and hHistory at the EnsAD – École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris

Newsletter:
A Newsletter functions as a through-line for Project 3 research. Every two weeks, a one-page format designed to present findings, curiosities, concerns related to the thesis project is presented .Reading groups are formed to discuss content (in pre-corona times reading groups were held in a public space in Bolzano). Examples of content: interviews, quotes, drawings, advertisements, statistics, commissioned content, gossip, want-ads, obituary, crossword puzzles, riddles, statistics, announcements… This can be fictionalized, purely informational or a combination of both.
