Material Talks: Biomaterial Futures

Join us for two Material Talks on creating a more sustainable and creative material future using materials sourced from renewable resources, waste streams, and by-products.

We are pleased to invite you to the following open talks both taking place at BITZ unibz fablab in Bolzano.

Marvelous Materials
> Tuesday, December 16th from 5 PM

Greta Isola (artist and art educator) and Susanna Ahola (Doctor of Science, specialized in innovative cellulose-based materials) will present biobased material education and research from Aalto University Bioinnovation Center and CHEMARTS from Finland.

Bioinnovation Center and CHEMARTS are united in the pursuit of a more sustainable and creative material future using materials sourced from renewable resources, waste streams, and by-products. They will also present their latest book “Marvelous Materials”, a research inspired experiment book that contains 17 material recipes utilizing natural, recycled and bio-based materials.

Designing with Biomaterial Intelligence for Sustainable Futures
> Wednesday, December 17th from 4 PM

Charlett Wenig is an interdisciplinary material researcher and industrial designer with a strong focus on local biomaterials and their processing possibilities. She is currently working at the Max Planck Institute in Berlin investigating potential applications and processing methods for local plant species.

By bringing together insights from natural sciences and design she creates outcomes that can emerge as boundary objects that mediate between disciplines, foster collaboration, and open new perspectives for both innovative applications and research questions in the context of sustainable futures.

These open talks are spoken in English.
