Let’s talk about Heat(islands)!

CALL FOR WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS

Did you or someone you know ever experience extreme heat in Bozen–Bolzano, especially in public spaces across the city? Even though Bozen-Bolzano is located in a beautiful mountain valley, it is ranked among the hottest cities in Europe during summer and has experienced an average annual temperature increase of +2.2 °C from 1980 to 2024.*

Not only the city’s location, but also its architecture and urban planning play a significant role in these extreme heat accumulations. To address this issue and raise awareness of its causes, related health risks, and possible solutions, we have decided to start a project focused on urban heat.
The first part of this project consists of a participatory workshop with residents of Bozen-Bolzano to identify specific heat spots in the city during summertime that require intervention and solutions in order to become accessible and comfortable again.

This is where you come into play:
We are looking for a group of engaged individuals who would like to take part in our workshop in January:
Workshop dates:

08.01.2026 – 17:30 to 20:30

OR

10.01.2026 – 13:00 to 16:00

If you or someone you know is interested in participating, or if you are part of an initiative, social group, or neighbourhood collective that would like to participate as a group, please reach out to: EllaSophie.Stauber@student.unibz.it

The long-term goal of our project, beyond the workshop itself, is to identify urban heat spots and then design an intervention that both raises awareness and provides information, while also offering shade at a specific heat spot. Additional long-term goals are currently in development, but more about that when we (hopefully) meet!

We look forward to meeting you at the workshop.

Thank you, and see you soon!
