Bāyn al-Sutūr | Between the Lines
Presented by
Shiri Mahler
The project, Bāyn al-Sutūr, emerged from Shiri’s thesis project, Man’ul. As part of her research on linguistic landscapes, she developed a new model aimed at fostering intercultural dialogue by incorporating the Arabic language—often absent from Israeli formal and informal signage—into public leisure spaces. This model creates a narrative linguistic landscape where Arabic gains visibility, not only for its native speakers but also for Hebrew speakers. The project was deeply influenced by her semester at the University of Bolzano and her experience of bilingual public spaces.
