Our workshop makes use of urban spaces for design interventions made from found waste materials. Through our activities, participants are involved in generating value for our shared environment with some guidance, even when the source materials are considered “waste”. To shift perceptions and revalue resources, we sweep the streets on bicycles with manual tools, transforming waste into functional objects right where we find it. The U.F.O.s (Urban Freestyle Objects), as we call the results, are then left in their original location, hoping to improve public spaces and trigger a thought process in ourselves and passersby.
About
Pietro Rista, Konrad Freyer and Maximilian Stahl form the design collective OfficineVandale. Driven by the goal of applying their design skills to the development of more social and ecological futures, they began their studies at the Master in Eco-Social Design in Bolzano.
Pietro is from Rivoli, a city next to Turin, where he studied Industrial Design at “Politecnico di Torino”. He is interested in developing and exploring alternative ways of production and economic systems.
Konrad comes from Wienhausen, a village in the north west of Germany and he studied Industrial Design at “Muthesius University” in Kiel. Here he developed an interest for need-based forms of production, open design and commoning.
Maximilian grew up in Gaildorf, a town in the south of Germany near Stuttgart. After studying Product Design at the “Hochschule für Gestaltung” in Schwäbisch Gmünd he lived and worked for one year in Warsaw.
